Cryptobot Ransomware Virus – Removal Instructions

The Cryptobot virus is a harmful Trojan infection that tries to collect ransoms from Internet users. It was designed and spread by criminals. This malware resembles numerous other ransomware viruses that impersonate law enforcement bodies around the world. However, it requests an unusually large ransom and uses more sophisticated techniques than most other malware. The Cryptobot virus most frequently infects computers in North America and Western Europe. In addition to extorting money from the user, Cryptobot is capable of harming files on the hard drive.

The Cryptobot virus installs itself without permission and may arrive in a software bundle or email attachment. It uses the names of government agencies like the Department of Homeland Security or National Security Agency. Computer owners in Europe may see the names of official departments in their countries. To convince people of its authenticity, the Cryptobot Trojan collects data from the PC’s hard drive and uses it to create and display a customized ransom message.

The Cryptobot virus typically accuses users of viewing unlawful pornographic content. Before demanding a ransom, it might redirect the Web browser to an X-rated website. The Cryptobot virus does this to make the victim believe that he or she inadvertently visited an illegal website and has committed a crime. Alternately, Cryptobot may accuse the user of downloading pirated material.

The Cryptobot virus incrementally encrypts a victim’s files and promises to decrypt them when the penalty is paid. This means that the data is scrambled and cannot be accessed. Meanwhile, it continues to demand $300 or an equivalent amount in a foreign currency. The Cryptobot ransomware threatens to charge $600 or $1,000 if it doesn’t receive cash within five days. Cryptobot may request a certain payment method, such as MoneyPak or Ukash. Paying a ransom will not restore data or remove the Cryptobot virus from a computer. However, quickly eliminating this malware will reduce the number of files that it corrupts.
